Students Attended Inspiring Lecture on the Universe
Global Wisdom International School, Dera Bassi
Under the guidance and encouragement of Principal Dr. Basundhara, students of Classes IX to XII of Global Wisdom International School, Derabassi had the unique opportunity to attend an enlightening scientific lecture titled “From Ripples to Galaxies: Using Supercomputers to Unveil the Story of Our Universe”. This prestigious event, organized by the Society for Promotion of Science & Technology in India (SPSTI), was held at the Tagore Theatre, Sector 18, Chandigarh on May 6, 2025.
The session was conducted by Prof. Arif Babul, a globally renowned astrophysicist and distinguished Professor at the University of Victoria, Canada. Prof. Babul, a PhD from Princeton and a Fellow of the American Physical Society, captivated the audience with his deep insights into cosmic structures and galaxy formation.
The lecture explored how the Universe evolved over billions of years, using data from advanced telescopes like the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescope, and the capabilities of modern supercomputers. Through visually stunning computer-generated imagery and animation, attendees were taken on a cosmic journey from the earliest ripples of the universe to the majestic galaxies of today.
The interactive session left students and educators inspired, igniting curiosity about astrophysics and the limitless possibilities of scientific discovery. The event concluded with a thought-provoking discussion on the future of space exploration and the role of young minds in shaping scientific progress.

Gurdip Singh Chahal, Chairman of the School and Dr. Basundhara, Principal, expressed their pride in the students’ enthusiastic participation and emphasized the importance of such events in fostering scientific temper and global thinking. The event was supported by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Chandigarh Administration, and The Haryana State Council for Science, Innovation & Technology.
